My Costa Blanca country cottage or finca is a few minutes walk to the mountains near the village of Gaianes in Alicante province. It has wonderful mountain views and is ideally placed for anyone looking for a Spanish walking, cycling or mountain climbing holiday in inland Costa Blanca, Alicante.
My Spanish country cottage is a modern property on the outskirts of the village of Gaianes in rural Costa Blanca. It has magnificent views of the mountains that are only a few minutes walk away yet the superb beach at Gandia on the coast is accessible by car. Rental properties in rural Costa Blanca are few and far between, not like the crowded coastal strip, so Hillmara, as my rental villa is called, is very popular. It is close to the nature reserve of Sierra de Mariola with its wonderful mountain trails and also to Muro de Alcoy where each spring they hold the famous Moros versus Cristianos battle re-enactments. Festivals like this take place in many parts of Spain celebrating the expulsion of the Moors by the Spanish, but this fiesta is claimed to be the biggest, best and most famous, with up to 28 "armies" taking part. Holiday accommodation in Muro de Alcoy itself is usually booked well in advance so my rental villa in Gaiaines is an ideal alternative.
The house has two bedrooms, - one having a double bed, the other twin bedded, - plus a sofa-bed in the lounge, so can sleep up to six people. It is ideal for those wanting to visit an authentic Spanish region, rather than the "international" concrete, coastal strip. It is of particular interest to walkers, cyclists and mountain climbers. Although set close to the mountains, there are plenty of cycle routes around the area that are not themselves mountainous and suitable for all levels of cyclist.
